A Rutgers University freshman posted a goodbye message on his Facebook page, and then leaped to his death off the George Washington Bridge in New Jersey. Tyler Clementi, 18, had allegedly been filmed without his consent by his roommate in a “sexual encounter” with a male student. Clementi posted “Jumping off the gw bridge, sorry” on Facebook on Sept. 22, and although authorities have not yet recovered his body, police have pulled an unidentified male body just north of the bridge. Clementi’s roommate Dharun Ravi and another student, Molly Wei, have been charged with two counts each of invasion of privacy after allegedly placing a camera in Clementi’s room and livestreaming the recording online on Sept. 19, according to the New Jersey Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, and Ravi was charged with two additional counts of invasion of privacy. On a Twitter page—since deactivated—Ravi allegedly tweeted on Sept. 19th, “roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.” Ravi allegedly followed up on Sept. 21 with a similar message. The pair could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
