He’s already portrayed a fashion reporter, a white rapper, a Kazakh man, and now comedian Sacha Baron Cohen will take on the role of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, Deadline.com revealed on Thursday. Peter Morgan will write and Robert De Niro will co-produce the yet-to-be-titled film, which is scheduled to begin production in 2011. The movie focuses on Queen’s formative years, leading up to their 1985 Live Aid performance. Queen’s surviving members—Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon—have licensed the band’s songs for a film for the first time. It has not been confirmed whether or not Borat star Baron Cohen will sing.
