Sally Menke, the longtime editor of Quentin Tarantino’s films, was found dead on a hiking trail in Los Angeles Tuesday. Menke, 57, was hiking with a friend Monday when the two got separated; the friend called police when she couldn’t track Menke down by the early evening. Police used bloodhounds and a helicopter to find her in the night. Yesterday was the hottest day ever recorded in Los Angeles’ history, with thermometers hitting 113 degrees. An autopsy will determine if heat was the cause of death or a pre-existing condition made her more vulnerable. Menke edited Inglourious Basterds and Pulp Fiction, both of which earned her Oscar nominations.
