The California poultry plants linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened around 300 people in 18 states will stay open after submitting a plan to the USDA to improve conditions. The regulatory body lifted a threat to close down the Foster Farms plants that had cited unsanitary conditions, including instances of fecal material on chicken carcasses. Gross, but the conditions aren’t unique, and apparently Foster Farms has a decent safety record. Samples taken at the plant show salmonella rates on par with industry standards. Salad, anyone?
