Salt Lake City voters elected Jackie Biskupski as the city’s and the state of Utah’s first openly gay mayor. According to early vote tallies Tuesday, Biskupski defeated two-term Mayor Ralph Becker by a margin of 52 to 47.8 percent. The mayor has yet to concede to Biskupski, but publicly commended his rival on a “very strong campaign.” Final tallies won’t be released until Nov. 17, after which the mayor would have to acknowledge defeat.
