When Samantha Bee was just about to start hosting her own late-night show, Full Frontal, on TBS this past year, she got a card from Stephen Colbert that read, “Go get those bastards.” Nearly eight months later, he congratulated his former Daily Show colleague for “just crushing it.”
Now, as she said on The Late Show Friday night, they’ve got themselves some “incredible bastards” to go after every night on their respective shows. Asked if she’s “enjoying” the chance to make fun of Donald Trump on a weekly basis, Bee replied, “Enjoy is a strong word.”
“It’s certainly a buffet of wonderful things to draw upon to make a comedy show,” she continued. But that being said, she added, “I want it to be over so badly.”
“I want to live my life! I want America to be happy again!” Bee continued. Asked by Colbert if she was “nervous” during the first debate, she said, “I was extremely nervous. We had terrible anxiety in our offices all day. We were all very pale, all very drawn, kind of shivering. It was kind of terrible.”
In the end, Bee thinks the debate went “very well” for Clinton as Trump “peeled away the layers of the onion” and “revealed himself in small ways throughout the debate.” On next week’s vice president debate Bee said the stakes are higher than you might think. “I feel like Donald Trump has said that Mike Pence will be his de facto president,” she said. “I mean, while he's busy making America great, Mike's going to be taking care of all the policy and all that other shit.”
