The youngest survivor on Schindler’s List, Leon Leyson, died Saturday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 83. As a 13-year-old, Leyson had to stand on a box to reach the machinery at Oskar Schindler’s factory; he was called “Little Leyson” by Schindler. Leyson moved to California in 1949 and worked as a teacher for 39 years in Huntington Beach. He lived in obscurity until the film came out in 1993, but after, he embarked on a public-speaking career talking about his experiences during the Holocaust. Leyson saw Schindler years later and began to introduce himself, only to have Schindler interrupt him and say, “I know who you are. You are Little Leyson.”
