Scientists have upped their estimates of the amount of oil leaking from the Deepwater Horizon well once again—this time to 25,000 to 30,000 barrels of oil a day. The estimate comes from one of the several teams the government has hired to study the spill, and it means that between 53.6 to 64.3 million gallons of oil have entered the Gulf overall, five to six times more than the Exxon Valdez spill. In better news, BP thinks it will soon be able to double the amount of oil it is collecting each day from the well. When a new vessel arrives next week, it thinks it will be able to collect 28,000 barrels a day.
