The Seattle Seahawks apologized for sending a tweet that compared their NFC championship victory over the Green Bay Packers to Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy on Monday. In honor of the national holiday celebrating the civil-rights leader, the team tweeted, “We shall overcome,” with a photo of an emotional Russell Wilson, the team’s QB, and the hashtag MLKDay. The team later deleted the tweet and apologized for “poor judgment,” noting that it was not the intent to compare football to “the civil-rights legacy of Dr. King.” The Seahawks mounted an improbable comeback to defeat the Packers 28-22 in overtime on Sunday. They will return to the Super Bowl for the second year in a row to face the New England Patriots on Feb. 1.
