Several players on the Seattle Seahawks are considering sitting down during the national anthem before this Sunday’s season opener. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin said he needs to “get all of my ducks in a row” before initiating the protest, while linebacker Bobby Wagner confirmed that the team has been talking about the possibility of a group protest for the Sept. 11 game. “It’s going to be a team thing. That’s what the world needs to see,” Wagner said. “The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals.” Wagner promised a “big surprise” for the game. Cornerback Jeremy Lane sat during the anthem during the team’s final preseason game, echoing San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s controversial display late last month in protest of police brutality. President Obama commented on the issue, saying Kapernick and others have a “constitutional right” to such protests.
