An Irishman got a £40,000 pot of gold last night at one of the top literary awards in the UK. Nobel-laureate poet Seamus Heaney received the David Cohen Prize for Literature for lifetime achievement, winning the hefty cash prize. Heaney, whose book of poems include The Spirit Level, often writes about themes of transition in his work. His first published poem appeared in 1966, and he called last night’s prize “a lovely reward.”
