The Seattle City Council approved a measure by an 8-0 vote Monday night that will allow Uber drivers to unionize in the city. It also covers taxi drivers, and other for-hire drivers. Seattle would be the first city in the country to create a system in which these drivers have the rights typically afforded to unions. Under the ordinance, a company like Uber would provide the city with its list of drivers within Seattle. Then a nonprofit organization would step in to be a bargaining representative for the drivers with the city.
