The Secret Service’s assistant director wanted private unflattering information released about Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the Utah Republican who critized the service, according to a story from The Washington Post Wednesday. “Some information that he might find embarrassing needs to get out,” Assistant Director Edward Lowery wrote in an email earlier this year. Two days later, The Daily Beast reported that Chaffetz, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, applied to be a Secret Service agent but was rejected.
