While Cartier celebrated its 100th birthday in New York last week, another centennial bash was underway across the pond. Selfridges, the historic British department store, threw itself a “Big Yellow Festival” to commemorate turning 100. Everyone from Joan Collins to London mayor Boris Johnson (“BoJo”) packed the store. And it was a motley crowd, too, featuring “old dowagers in McQueen” and male wait staff in white micro-tennis shorts. Said Lily Allen: “I asked Joan Collins to kiss me but she refused. She said she doesn’t kiss people she doesn’t know.”
