It was a close vote, but Senate Democrats succeeded on Wednesday in pushing through a measure that would extend tax rates for families making less than $250,000 a year. Two senators who caucus with the Democrats— Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Jim Webb (D-Va.)—voted against the bill, which is expected to die in the Republican-controlled House. Earlier in the day, the Senate rejected a measure that would have extended the current tax rates for all income brackets by a vote of 45 to 54.
