Jin Hua Cui was charged with forcing young Korean immigrants—many of whom who had answered jobs ads for nail salons—into sex slavery in massage parlors on Long Island. The madam had ads for nail salon work placed in Korean-language newspapers, and when women would respond, they’d be forced into prostitution under threats of violence and embarrassment, the prosecution says. Over a four-month investigation, detectives filmed and photographed women being driven each morning out to Long Island massage parlors. At least seven women were then forced to have sex for the price of $60 to $80, but Cui kept the tips. Ads on Craigslist promised “very lovely ladies” would take care of johns’ needs. Cui lives in a massive Queens mansion, which when raided was discovered to contain $20,000 in cash, thousands of condoms and lots of lingerie. Cui pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and promoting prostitution.
