Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has decided to face trial by judge, instead of by military jury, on charges that he endangered comrades by deserting his post in Afghanistan, the AP reported Monday. Bergdahl, who was captured by the Taliban in 2009 after leaving his post, is accused of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. During the 2016 campaign President Trump called Bergdahl a “dirty, rotten traitor” and suggested he be executed. A judge rejected a defense request earlier this year that the case be dismissed because of Trump's criticism.
