The GOP presidential field has seemed awfully interested in immigration lately, and the Daily Beast’s Michael Medved says the fixation needs to end—now. “Why spend a wildly disproportionate amount of energy exploring an issue that few voters consider a top priority, and where all Republican candidates fundamentally agree?” asks Medved. Indeed, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry have wasted valuable debate time clobbering each other over their “soft” immigration records, and just his week, Romney has come under attack following reports that his Massachusetts health care reform provided care for undocumented immigrants. But Meved says the candidates’ obsession with this issue, which could alienate voters in the general election, is “destructive, distracting, demented, and downright dumb.” Say it with us, guys: "It’s the economy, stupid."
