Texas’ state agriculture commissioner is in hot water Tuesday after calling Hillary Clinton a “cunt” on Twitter. Citing an “Auto Alliance poll” showing Donald Trump beating his Democratic rival in Pennsylvania by one point, Sid Miller, a former state legislator, wrote, “TRUMP 44 Cunt 43,” punctuated with a cheering “Go Trump Go!” The tweet was later deleted. Shortly after nixing the tweet, Miller claimed his account had been breached: “@MillerForTexas HAS BEEN HACKED. The disgusting re-tweet has been removed and we have changed all account passwords. Be advised.”
Miller’s own office, however, later contradicted the commissioner, altogether abandoning the “hacked” defense with this statement: “The campaign was retweeting information today and inadvertently retweeted a tweet that they were not aware contained a derogatory term. The tweet was taken down as soon as possible. Commissioner Miller finds the term vulgar and offensive and apologizes to anyone who may have seen it.” The offending tweet, however, was not an actual retweet—and so, if this excuse is to be believed, Miller is essentially blaming a staffer who was copying-and-pasting from another Twitter user’s account.
Texas Tribune profiled Miller on Monday, calling him Trump’s “go-to” surrogate in the final stretch of the 2016 election. “We create yet another star,” Trump himself boasted Sunday of Miller’s frequent television appearances in support of his presidential run. “Sid Miller has become Donald Trump’s biggest cheerleader and champion in the state of Texas,” Miller’s spokesman said in the profile.
