Sierra Leone, already one of the three countries hardest hit by Ebola, recorded 121 deaths and 81 new cases of the hemorrhagic fever in one of the single deadliest days since the disease appeared in the country more than four months ago, government statistics showed Sunday. The figures, compiled by the country's Emergency Operations Center, put the total number of deaths in the West African nation at 678. The overall death toll from the epidemic reached 3,439 out of a total of 7,492 cases in West Africa and the United States as of October 1, according to the World Health Organization. Along with Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea are at the epicenter of the current outbreak.
