21st Century Fox on Tuesday announced it would no longer broadcast the Fox News Channel via Sky in the United Kingdom. The withdrawal is not related to the government weighing whether to approve Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox’s bid to takeover Sky. Instead, it is because the U.S.-based, conservative news network is no longer commercially viable across the pond. “[Fox] has decided to cease providing a feed of Fox News Channel in the UK,” a 21st Century Fox spokeswoman told The Guardian. “Fox News is focused on the US market and designed for a US audience and, accordingly, it averages only a few thousand viewers across the day in the UK. We have concluded that it is not in our commercial interest to continue providing Fox News in the UK.”
