Billionaire George Soros is the wallet behind a Democratic-led push to repeal restrictive voting laws enacted by Republicans. His political adviser, Michael Vachon, told The New York Times that Soros is prepared to spend more than $5 million to influence laws in states where legislatures have implemented restrictions since 2010, and to be ready to tackle new legislation as it comes up. “It is disingenuous to suggest that these laws are meant to protect against voter fraud, which is nearly nonexistent,” Vachon said. “Clearly they are meant to give Republicans a political advantage on Election Day.” Soros was recruited to the effort by Marc Elias, who is the chief counsel for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
