Thousands of demonstrators in Barcelona were joined by Spain’s King Felipe VI on Saturday in a march condemning terrorism. The march, held just over a week after 15 people were killed in a terror attack on the city’s Las Ramblas avenue, proceeded along the main boulevard to an area near where the violence took place. Victims of the attack led the procession, with demonstrators holding banners reading, “I’m not afraid” in Catalan. Other signs read, “No to Islamophobia” and “The best response: peace,” according to Agence France-Presse. King Felipe VI, the first king to take part in a demonstration since 1975, joined Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and representatives of all the country’s major political parties at the event. Marches were also held in Madrid, Valencia, and Vigo.
