An eccentric antique dealer accused of stealing a precious Shakespearean First Folio appeared in court in Consett, England today. The 1623 Folio, which the dealer, Raymond Scott, reportedly stole from Durham University Library in Northern England, is worth about 3 million pounds, or $4.5 million. The book was found when a man brought it into the Folger Shakespeare Library in D.C. in June, asking for it to be authenticated. Library staff called the authorities, and the theft was traced back to Scott. Although he's denied the charges, the self-described "dilettante" arrived at the courthouse in a stretch limo, dressed in all white, holding a cigar and a cup of instant noodles. He read out loud from Shakespeare's Richard III. Sounds eccentric indeed.
