A huge storm off the coast of western Alaska and east of Russia is being considered the strongest storm in Bering Sea history, and possibly in the North Pacific Ocean. The storm underwent rapid intensification Friday as it went from a central pressure of 970 millibars (mb) to 924 mb by Friday night (the lower the pressure, the stronger the storm). The storm will help usher in dramatic weather changes across North America, pushing unusually mild air into Alaska and extremely cold air into much of the eastern U.S.
