A series of tornadoes and thunderstorms ripped across Ohio last night, claiming at least seven lives and destroying around 50 homes. An eight-mile path of destruction remains, tracing the storms' path through an area of farms and light industry. The damage extended to Pennsylvania and into central Ohio, with another tornado hitting Illinois, around 80 miles southwest of Chicago. In Lake Township, Ohio, a police and medical emergency medical services building was destroyed, as was a high school gymnasium where a graduation was supposed to be held Sunday. "It's unbelievable," township Fire Chief Todd Walters said. "It's just total destruction—stuff just completely flattened or gone." A tornado watch has been issued for parts of D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia and much of the Northeast.
