Survivors of sexual assault will no longer face punishment if they report their attackers in Sudan. Lawyers say the government has fixed a legal flaw that meant reporting rape was seen as an admission of sex outside marriage. The new law defines rape "as a penetrative sexual act involving physical or psychological force," Reuters reports. "This amendment is very helpful for rape victims or survivors seeking justice, and it is also helpful for us lawyers who are supporting these women in court," said Hikma Ahmed, a lawyer who defended a gang-raped 19-year-old who was fined and sentenced to a month in prison.
