Syria is being accused of failing to follow through on a deal with the Arab League to release more than 700 political prisoners after a human rights group said Saturday that only 13 had been released. Syria has been accused of detaining thousands and killing an estimated 5,000 people in clashes in the regime’s crackdown on protesters. At least six people were killed during protests on Saturday, a day after an estimated 27 people were killed. An amateur video released late Friday showed one Arab League observer saying he had seen snipers and they would be withdrawn, but the Arab League on Saturday said the official was only making a hypothetical remark and had not seen snipers. Retuers reported Saturday that the Syrian opposition has already drawn up a road map should the protesters be successful in overthrowing Assad.
