The Syrian army is calling truce...at least for four days. The military will cease operations starting Friday in observance of the Muslim holiday Eid, though it promises that it will continue to respond to any gunfire. Hours before the cease-fire was announced Thursday, violence continued to plague Syria. A resident of Damascus reported to Al Jazeera that the area is being “pummeled” by tanks and rockets from President Bashar al-Assad's rebels. Doubts remain as to whether the truce will hold, with residents claiming “no one is taking the ceasefire seriously.” An earlier truce in April collapsed after only days.
