Syria’s Bashar al-Assad sure isn’t going down without a fight. In several military campaigns across the country, pro-democracy protesters were quashed by the government. Ali Farzat, a well known political cartoonist who drew a cartoon of Assad riding out of the country with Libya’s Gaddafi, was beaten and left on the side of the road. The artist had two fingers broken on one arm, his other arm was broken, and one eye was bruised. Tanks stormed the town of Shuhail and four towns in Dara were attacked as well. Four soldiers were reportedly killed for refusing to shoot protesters. The U.N. believes that 2,200 people have been killed in the last five months in Syria.
