Afghan officials say Taliban insurgents “punished” 11 voters by cutting off their index fingers. The violent attack against voters occurred in the western Herat province said police spokesman Raoud Ahamdi. The Taliban had threatened anyone who voted in the presidential run-off this weekend with finger-cutting. Five election workers were also killed Saturday when their minibus was struck by a roadside bomb. Overall, there were 50 casualties in Taliban attacks surrounding the elections. Officials have begun counting the votes in the race between former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah and former finance minister Ashraf Ghani, but even preliminary results are not expected to be announced until July 2. In addition to the violence, there have also been multiple charges of election fraud.
