The Allegan County Tea Party has responded to the expulsion of Michigan state representatives Cindy Gamrat, who was having an extramarital affair with fellow representative Todd Courser. In a Facebook post, the group said, “On 9/11 2005, the terrorist network in Lansing Michigan (sometimes called the Republican Party leadership), has taken down the Twin Towers.” Chairman Stephen Young stood by the statement telling News 8, “The Republican Party leadership is far worse than the terrorists who attacked New York,” he said. “Millions killed by Republican leadership, versus thousands by terrorists.” Courser resigned after Gamrat’s expulsion. The Allegan County Tea Party believes she was removed due to her strong stance on abortion, not her extramarital affair.
