Fewer babies are having babies. The Guttmacher Institute released a report Monday showing that teen pregnancies, births, and abortions have dropped to new lows. In 2010 among teens 15 to 19, there were 57.4 pregnancies per 1,000 girls, which was a 15 percent decline from 2008 and a 51 percent decline from the peak in 1990. The teen abortion rate also dropped 66 percent from its peak in 1988—14 years after Roe v. Wade. While teen pregnancy rates declined in all 50 states, there are still major disparities. The highest teen pregnancy rate belongs to New Mexico (80 per 1,000), while the lowest goes to New Hampshire (28 per 1,000).
