Abby Sunderland, the California 16-year-old who was missing for several days as she tried to sail the world solo, has been rescued. A French fishing crew plucked Sunderland from the Indian Ocean about 2,000 nautical miles off Australia's western coast Saturday. Australian officials provided air cover while the teenager was moved by rescue boat from her boat, Wild Eyes, to the much larger fishing vessel Ile De La Reunion. Sunderland’s family has been notified. Three ships that responded to the rescue call are now working on an arrangement to bring her to shore without disrupting commercial shipping.
