Virginia police said Monday that a teen was shot and killed by officers after he allegedly turned toward them with a BB gun in his hand. Two Roanoke County officers stopped Kionte DeShaun Spencer, 18, after authorities received a 911 call reporting that a black male was wielding a gun in a parking lot. Police said the officers deployed tasers on Spencer twice, but neither round worked to contain him. Police Chief Howard Hall said Spencer allegedly turned toward the officers when they opened fire on him, and hit him once in the hip and once in the collarbone. The weapon was reportedly still in Spencer’s hand when he was shot, a preliminary investigation showed, but police said they were unaware it was a BB gun. Spencer died later at the hospital. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
