Apparently the three rules of real estate are location, location, and a link to a notorious crime boss. The property manager for James “Whitey” Bulger’s Los Angeles apartment has been inundated with calls from prospective tenants. He says he's received between 100 and 200 requests since the highly publicized arrest. Aside from the historical aura of the apartment, people fantasize that they may find more money buried in the walls—Bulger had more than $800,000 and 30 guns stashed away. Bulger was getting a great deal: $1,145 in an area where rents are typically double or triple that. The owner of the management company has vowed to hike up the rent for the new tenant—and do a more thorough background check.
