There’s a worldwide boom in whiskey and bourbon: China, Australia, and South Korea have all recently lowered their tariffs on international whiskeys, and now the global market is clamoring for Tennessee’s most-famous product. Industry experts say whiskey sales are outpacing production by a 2-1 margin, a problem exacerbated by the fact that whiskey takes years to age. “It’s not like you can ramp up production today and have that whiskey on the market tomorrow,” said Clayton Cutler, chief distiller at the TennSouth Distillery.
