Authorities in Huntsville executed a Texas woman convicted of starving and torturing her girlfriend’s 9-year-old son a decade ago. Lisa Coleman, who was 38, received a lethal injection Wednesday evening, about an hour after the Supreme Court rejected a last-day appeal to spare her life. She became the ninth killer and second woman to receive a lethal injection in Texas in 2014. She’s the 15th woman executed nationally since 1976, when the high court allowed the death penalty to resume. That compares with 1,400 men in the same period. Coleman smiled and nodded to an aunt and some friends who watched through a window, and said, “I’m all right.”
