The military junta that seized power in Thailand last month isn’t planning on restoring civilian rule anytime soon, but it does have big plans for national levels of happiness. The junta has launched an official campaign that involves free concerts, food, female dancers, and horses for petting, in order to pave the way for reconciliation after a decade of upheaval. Of course, the happiness project is being rolled out alongside efforts to stifle all opposition to the army’s May 22 putsch, which deposed the government that Thai voters elected three years ago.
