Andy Irons was a three-time world surfing champion when he was found dead in a Dallas hotel room on November 2. His family said that he died of dengue fever, but there was never any evidence he had contracted it, and besides, it only kills 1 percent of people it infects. While the cause of death is unknown, Irons battled alcohol and drug addiction throughout his life, and several prescription drugs were found in the hotel room when he died. “He basically died on us, more than once," said surf photographer Art Brewer. Irons is survived by his wife, who is pregnant.
