In an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal titled “A Mother, a Feminist, Aghast,” attorney Judith Grossman writes about her family's harrowing battle to fight accusations that her son had engaged in “nonconsensual sex” with an ex-girlfriend. At her son’s small, liberal-arts college, Title IX’s zeal to guarantee equality between the sexes “obliterated the presumption of innocence that is so foundational to our traditions of justice.” Grossman says the accusations against her son—presented with no evidence beyond word of mouth—were vague, “lack[ing] even the most basic information about the acts.” As a lawyer, Grossman was able to fight for her son's constitutional rights. But the current climate of “unbridled feminist orthodoxy”—if not changed, she says—will land our universities in “a veritable snake pit of injustice.”
