In another victory for same-sex marriage proponents, Illinois Republican Party chairman Pat Brady said Wednesday he’ll be putting his “full support” behind marriage equality legislation underway in Springfield. “Giving gay and lesbian couples the freedom to get married honors the best conservative principles. It strengthens families and reinforces a key Republican value—that the law should treat all citizens equally,” Brady said, adding that government should not impede citizens making lifelong commitments to each other. President Obama recently urged Illinois lawmakers to vote for the legislation in his home state.
