Move over, skinny girls: London-based fast-fashion chain TopShop plans to debut its plus-sized collection this month, catering to young women size 14 to 24 who want to wear the same styles as their svelter friends. The line has been designed by Beth Ditto, rotund lead singer of the punk band Gossip and a fashion icon—who prickled against participating in a TopShop event a few years ago, calling the chain hypocritical. “I don’t think it’s fair to put my face somewhere where they would never let me in there to wear their clothes,” she wrote on a blog—but Ditto’s day has now come. And TopShop isn’t alone: Forever 21, Target, and niche labels have also recently released lines for full-figured girls, hoping to tap into an underserved market.
