Pixar is no stranger to massive box-office draws, and with the upcoming release of Toy Story 3, it’s looking like they’re destined for yet another triumph. A.O. Scott remarks that it makes “remarkably subtle use of 3-D, also explores a range of cinematic techniques undreamed of in the first two chapters.” The Los Angeles Times heralds the film as “everything you hoped it would be,” and Entertainment Weekly says, “The movie… may actually break some records and become the company’s highest-grossing movie ever.” To do that, it would have to surpass reigning summer favorite, Finding Nemo, which earned $340 million in 2003. But with higher ticket prices for 3-D films and film enthusiasts on the rise, Toy Story 3 may very well make Pixar and summer movie history.
