Turkey has built a new cemetery specifically told hold the bodies of the plotters who carried out a failed coup earlier this month in the country. The graveyard, called the “Traitors’ Cemetery” is in the corner of a construction site for a dog shelter in Istanbul. About 290 people died in the uprising, including 24 plotters. The Dogan News Agency quoted Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbas as saying officials will “reserve a spot and call it a traitors’ cemetery. Passers-by will curse them.” He added, “May every passer-by curse them and let them not rest in their tombs.” On Monday, a metal sign was reportedly put up outside of a newly-constructed stone wall that said “Traitors’ Cemetery” in white lettering.
