An Orange County tutor was arrested at LAX on Monday night after authorities say he helped students hack school computers to change their grades and access exams. Timothy Lance Lai, 29, allegedly helped students at Corona del Mar High School obtain teachers’ passwords and log-in information to change their grades in 2013. He also allegedly taught students how to use USB drives to record teachers’ keystrokes. Lai was taken into custody upon his return to the U.S. and charged with one felony count of second-degree commercial burglary and four felony counts of computer access and fraud. He reportedly fled the country, though authorities did not disclose from where he was returning. The cheating scandal rocked the Newport Beach high school and led to 11 students being expelled along with the resignation of a district administrator.
