Sid Caeasar, a star form the early days of television, passed away at the age of 91. His comedy program with Imogene Coca “Your Show of Shows” premiered in 1950. It was one of the most popular and groundbreaking of the era, featuring a staff of writers that included Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Neil Simon, Larry Gelbart, Lucille Kallen and Mel Tolkin. Following the show’s nearly decade-long run, he battled with alcoholism and barbiturates, but recovered to star on Broadway and in movies, including Grease and History of the World: Part 1.
