Twitter has reportedly suspended 235,000 accounts with alleged connections to the promotion of terrorist activities. The six-month effort was part of a move to keep accounts from promoting extremism, The New York Times reports. “The world has witnessed a further wave of deadly, abhorrent terror attacks across the globe,” the social network said in a statement. “We strongly condemn these acts and remain committed to eliminating the promotion of violence or terrorism on our platform.” The total number of accounts the site has suspended—since the middle of last year—in the crackdown is now estimated at 360,000. Twitter has attracted criticism from government agencies and users for its perceived lack of action to curtail bullies and terrorist sympathizers.
