Two men in their early 20s were sentenced to four years in jail for Facebook posts intended to cause disorder in London. They were arrested last week in the initial surge of violence that left London looted and burning. The posts by the two young men did not actually lead to any violent incidents, but the judge said he hoped their sentences would serve as a deterrent. “The sentences passed down today recognize how technology can be abused to incite criminal activity, and send a strong message to potential troublemakers about the extent to which ordinary people value safety and order in their lives and their communities,” the judge said.
