Typhoon Hagupit made landfall in the Philippines on Saturday, bringing strong winds and rain expected to last for days as the storm moves westward. Hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated from the country’s coastal regions. The storm is the strongest to hit the Philippines in 2014, although it is weaker than the typhoon that killed over 7,000 people last November. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 108 miles per hour as it touched down near the town of Dolores on Samar Island. It is expected to reach a 350-mile swath of the country.
